Growing Family : FIG AND FAUNA

Growing Family

by fig + fauna farm on 01/25/12

Over the weekend, we made the long haul to Northern Florida and picked up our much anticipated French Alpine dairy goats. Mother and daughter, they are a loving pair and both expecting in March and April. From every window in the house, I can see them grazing and nuzzling - it's hard to keep from going out to the pasture to sneak in yet another kiss.

Imagine the possibilities in the milk that they will soon provide...cheese, butter and  coffee cream to boot!

Diane ~ Isn't it so yummy!? Incredibly smooth right? I love how it coats your tummy with goodness! Could you taste the "goaty-ness" though? Some folks can and some cant...

When my cousin Ginna Lee was a baby, she had to have goat milk. My grandmother Poston had goats at Grandview Lodge in Colorado since Ginna Lee and her parents lived there during the Depression. By the time I was born, the goats were long gone except for the old pens where Mom use to point out to my sister and I. I think they had turkeys and I know Grandma kept chickens in her coop. Good memories.
